Last edition, we talked about the Night Season, the messages your spirit sends you while you sleep.

But your spirit doesn’t only speak in dreams. It’s been speaking to you your entire life, through the story you’ve been living.

This is the pillar I call History Speaks. And it’s based on a simple but powerful truth: Your past is not random.

Every challenge, every triumph, every unexpected turn, it’s all part of a narrative. There’s a thread running through it all, a story your life has been telling. Most of us are just too close to it to read the words.

We see our history as a collection of disconnected events. The job we lost. The relationship that ended. The city we moved to on a whim. We see the pain, the detours, the moments we felt lost. We see a bug in the system.

But what if it’s not a bug? What if it’s a feature? What if your history isn’t a rearview mirror, but a roadmap?

In my latest video, I talk about the three ways history speaks to us: through Patterns, through Pain, and through Pivots. When you learn to see these threads, you stop seeing your past as a burden and start seeing it as a blueprint. You realize that the story of your life has been leading you somewhere all along.

Here’s how to start reading your own story.

  1. Map Your Pivots. A pivot is any major turning point in your life. Take out a piece of paper and map out the 5-7 most significant pivots you can remember. The moment you changed your major. The unexpected job offer. The decision to move. Don’t judge them, just list them.

  2. Find the Thread. Look at your list of pivots. What’s the common theme? What lesson, strength, or realization connects them? Did each one force you to become more resilient? More compassionate? More courageous? That’s the thread. That’s the story your life has been trying to tell you.

  3. Read It Forward. Your history is not just about where you’ve been; it’s the map to where you’re going. Once you understand the story, you can start to see the next chapter. The thread doesn’t end in the past. It pulls you into your future.

What’s one pivot in your life that you now see was a critical part of your story?

I’d love to hear what you discover.
